"Lorennia, after you're done reading that book, might I borrow it to read for myself?"  ...    :)

LorenniaNailo

"Well, I can try and swing back through here after going home, this is pretty much on the way to everywhere else.  I can't promise anything though."

Coyotemoon

I would like to read the book.

LorenniaNailo

It's starting to sound like I should leave the book here and maybe pick it up on the way back if I manage to swing through here again.  Which is fine too.  :)

LorenniaNailo

I do believe most of you haven't made a choice yet...

Quote from: GameMaster on Jan 21, 2024, 11:12 PMYou find yourselves in what must be Lantan, and after a much needed celebration in the Silver Hook Tavern, the discussion turns to where each of you will go and what you will do next...Remember, you'll be going by ship unless you come up with some other way to travel, so make the necessary prepartions.

Lörennia is heading home, and it sounds like Phineas might be staying here (?), but I haven't seen any destinations from anyone else.

This is a decent world map.

And, if it helps, the following are the major ports that can presumably be reached from here (more or less ordered from North clockwise), with wiki links.  Remember that this is only 1372 DR and we're (obviously) pre-Spellplague (since that was in 1385).
* The Nelanther Isles
* The Moonshae Isles
* Luskan
* Neverwinter
* Waterdeep
* Baldur's Gate
* Amn (Athkatla)
* Muranndin (Murann)
* Tethyr (Velen, Zazesspur, Myratma)
* Calimshan (Memnon, Calimport, Manshaka, Almraiven, Sudolphor)
* The Lake of Steam (Tulmon, Yeshpek, Mintar, Saelmur, Ankhapur, Yhep, Innarlith, Derlusk, Theymarsh)
* The Border Kingdoms (Yallasch)
* Lapaliiya (Ormpur, Sheirtalar, Lushpool, Ithmong, Sammarash)
* Tashalar (Tashluta)
* Chult (Mezro, Port Castigliar, Port Nyranzaru)
* Samarach (Samargol)
* Thindol (Thindar, Lundeth, Delselar)
* Halruua (Halagard, Halarahh)
* Dambrath (Maarlith, Cathyr)
* Luiren (Krenalir, Beluir, Shoun)
* Estagund (Chavyondat)
* Var the Golden (Ormpé)
* Durpar (Vaelan, Assur)
* Maztica (presumably)
* Zakhara (presumably)

Updates finally coming today...  For now here are some answers to these questions:

Phineas:  We'll need to discuss your circumstances before you build a bigger boat.

Ghar:  You are reunited with Ash.  Lantan has a strong gnome population, so staying within Phineas's home until it's time to leave is probably the best course of action for you at this point.

Kawa:  You will need to find a way to the Holt Wardens, if you remember where they are in the world.
(You are currently on an island in the far Southwest of Faerun)

Lorennia:  Thos tells you that you were there for about 30 years, maybe more or less, but time may have worked differently there, he is merely a warrior and doesn't really understand such magicks.  As for Lome itself, it was created somewhere around 300 DR and went through the rise and fall of several empires before he marched his armies through the mist and into that world.

Etali:  A little ways out, you find the fish are plentiful and catching them is relatively easy.  You can almost just stick your hand into the water and pull out huge codfish.

What do you do?

If there is any way to confirm that time flowed differently in Lómë, Lörennia needs to do that before she sets out.  I can't think of any way to do that though.

Edit: Found a couple.  Some light research would turn up the Time of Troubles (14 years ago) and the discovery of Maztica (11 years ago).  A slave in Calimshan would have heard of both of these, easily.  Was she already aware of them?

"CURSE THE POINTY HATS! Apologies to the masters, but I cannot serve them in a place so unfit for living. Ill be heading to Suldophor, Calimshan soon as a deckhand. Come or no, I don't have pockets deep enough for anyone else. or in general. So you'll support yourself!"

Thank you for the multi-verse map, Lorennia

I do indeed want to build a bigger boat, Gamemaster, sloop-sized if possible  ...  I do have the stats for a sloop from a naval board game that does fit D&D  ...  :)

I do want to do some traveling  ...

OK, who wants to go traveling ...  come on, let's go Lorennia ???

You easily determine that the events were indeed 14 and 11 years ago, respectively.
Asking for the date, you receive this response:

"This Second day of The Claw of the Storms in the Year of Wild Magic."

(4th month, 2nd day, the end of Winter and about 3 tendays from Spring in 1372 DR)

In the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, there are two excellent maps here.
One for trade routes on page 88-89 (linked above) and one for political boundaries on page 100-101.

If you don't have this resource, please let me know.

On this day, Lantan is receiving two ships from Thindol, and sending two ships to Calimshan.
Note that going to Maztica and Zakhara is generally prohibited without very strong connections, which Phineas may have if he wants to try to push them.

[As we discussed], yes Lörennia remembers these events fairly well.  Also, additional research reveals that all that time in Lómë probably constituted hours to days out here, which comes as a huge relief.  That relief is obvious to Thos when she tells him (he deserves to know too).

Well, only Samarach and Zakhara regularly trade with Nimbral too, which is why I was hoping Phineas' connections might find someone willing to risk the journey.  Helping return a wayward daughter of Nimbral for a visit should be enough to get them to port, though obviously I can't guarantee anything (hence the risk).  At that point, it's up to the captain to try and leverage that visit into a regular route, if he so desires.  [Let me know if there are any rolls you'd like me to make.]

Failing that, Thindol is actually the closest port to Samarach, aside from Samarach itself, so that would probably be the ideal secondary destination assuming no one is trading with them either.
