I ignore the feeling of what could be in the shadows and the confused crowd for now, deciding to look for an ally close to the library I could lose the crowd in,-- what seems to be the final moments of my... "mother" shouldn't be ruined by an angry mob. If they find me later on, that's my problem to deal with, that I started choosing the outside over the drop.

In this world of peace and very little violent commotion, it is actually an easy matter to leap up and away, and into the maintenance alley behind the Library and just on this side of the city walls.

Dashing into the Library through the back door that is never locked, you are right upon The Librarian's room.  There is a light within, and as you burst into the room, there is an elven women with brutal scars across her face, neck, and arms, with a dagger gripped tightly in one hand, standing over the dying woman.

Before your eyes, the woman's skin seems to heal and fix itself nearly instantly.  Now perfectly smooth, young, and beautiful, her grip on the dagger loosens only slightly as she stares at it.

The Librarian whispers meekly for you.  "Ghar?  Ghar are you still here?  Where are you, Child?"
What do you do?

I quickly think back, wondering if she is the one I had sensed the gaze of before. Ultimately deciding it didn't matter, I try to think rationally- she would've died within hours anyway, right? I did my job and brought the book, should I ignore the elf and tend to mother? Would this women let me tend to her? Then suddenly recalling that mother had told me the book was some sort of healing tome I see that as my possible savior- though it seemed like a fairy tale book to me. With one thought in my mind I let out a louder, more primal scream than any human could produce. Taking a step forward clutching the book in my bag thinking, "I will get this book to her".
